As Malaysia chairs ASEAN in 2025, the country finds itself at the heart of critical geopolitical shifts in the Indo-Pacific. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim seeks to guide the region through rising tensions and global challenges โ€” from strategic rivalry between China and the U.S. to trade disruptions and evolving global alliances.

This timely discussion examines Malaysiaโ€™s foreign policy trajectory and regional leadership amid a pivotal year for Southeast Asia. It will consider how Malaysia’s Muslim-majority identity and position within the Global South shape its response to todayโ€™s complex crises.
