In celebration of Women in Translation Month, Veranda Books will host a conversation featuring translators Annelise Finegan and Nicky Harman, moderated by editor and cultural journalist Georgia De Chamberet of BookBlast.
The discussion will explore recent projects in Chinese literature in translation, including My Sisterβs Red Shirt by Tie Ning, translated by Annelise Finegan, and a forthcoming collection of short stories by Ling Shuhua, translated by Nicky Harman. The event will include a live Q&A and conclude with a book signing. It will be recorded and livestreamed.
π€ About the Speakers:
Annelise Finegan
Academic Director and Clinical Associate Professor of Translation at NYU School of Professional Studies. She has translated works by Lu Min, Hsu Yen Ling, and Can XueβLove in the New Millennium was longlisted for the 2019 Man Booker Prize.
Nicky Harman
An award-winning literary translator and advocate for Chinese literature in English. She has received the 2020 Special Book Award of China and contributes to Paper-Republic.org. She also teaches, blogs, and runs the China Fiction Bookclub (@cfbcuk).
Georgia de Chamberet
Editor, translator, journalist, and founder of BookBlast. She has a long-standing career in publishing and is literary executor of historian and traveler Lesley Blanch.
