Join Congressman John Moolenaar (R-MI) for the 2025 B.C. Lee Lecture as he addresses decades of U.S. engagement with China and how trade and manufacturing policies have left the U.S. vulnerable to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Moolenaar, Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the CCP, will outline bipartisan efforts to reduce U.S. dependence on China, protect American technology, and restrict capital from flowing into hostile Chinese firms. The event will also feature commentary by Steve Yates, Senior Research Fellow on China and National Security Policy, and Jeff M. Smith, Director of the Asian Studies Center.
🧾 About the Speakers:
Rep. John Moolenaar (R-MI) is a U.S. Representative and Chair of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the CCP. He focuses on legislative measures aimed at addressing economic and national security concerns related to China.
Steve Yates is a Senior Research Fellow in China and National Security Policy at the Heritage Foundation. He has previously served as Deputy National Security Adviser to the Vice President and has experience in U.S.–Asia strategic affairs.
Jeff M. Smith is Director of the Asian Studies Center at the Heritage Foundation. His work focuses on U.S. foreign policy toward Asia, particularly India and China, and he frequently publishes on strategic competition in the Indo-Pacific region.
